A NEW green group has celebrated its launch by planting a tree.
The Rev Peter Hancock, minister at Newsome South Methodist Church, planted a mountain ash at Berry Brow Infant and Nursery School.
The tree marks the formation of the Eco Group, created by the school, Mr Hancock's church, Newsome South Playgroup and the Ladybirds nursery and out-of-school club.
A cash gift from the Together charity shop in Newsome, run by Newsome Parish Church, Armitage Bridge Parish Church and the Newsome South church, enabled the pupils to buy items to entice wildlife into their school garden.
They have fitted nestboxes, tables and baths for birds, as well as planting special bushes to attract butterflies.
Mr Hancock said he hoped the Eco Group would encourage the children to enjoy and care for their environment.
