HUDDERSFIELD pensioner Trevor Elam has proved that old age is no barrier to learning new tricks.

At the age of 74, Dalton man Trevor has delved into the world of computers and is running a website for Huddersfield and District Model Aircraft Club.

Three years ago, he enrolled on a Huddersfield Technical College website design course at the Deighton Centre, knowing nothing about the worldwide web.

But after 12 weeks, he was proficient with web design tools - so decided to design a site for the aircraft club.

Trevor is the treasurer and a trustee of the club, having been a member since 1946.

The site has 18 pages of information about the club, together with pictures, a calendar of events, a news page, maps to the club's four flying fields and a membership form.

The website started as a hobby, but has become more popular than Trevor ever imagined.

It has had 4,286 hits and many of the club's 140 members joined via the website. Trevor said:

"People should have a go at things like this. It can be time- consuming, but it's highly interesting. I find it very useful."

Steve Harries, Trevor's web design tutor, said: "Trevor is an excellent example of how adult education enables people to participate in today's technology."

Trevor's site is www.hdmac. co.uk
