A jury sitting in Dublin in the case of former Huddersfield man accused of double murder have resumed hearing evidence in the case this afternoon.

Mark Nash, 42, who grew up in Bradley before moving to Ireland in 1996, denies the murder of Sylvia Shields, 60, and Mary Callanan, 61, in 1997.

The trial has been delayed for more than two weeks due to legal argument but has resumed today at Dublin’s Criminal Central Court.

This morning the former foreman of the jury indicated to the court he was going to sit a Garda aptitude test (police exam) the following week.

The judge decided in light of this news that the best way to proceed would be to continue with a jury of 11.

A new foreman has been selected and the jury will continue with 11 people, six men and five women.

The trial continues and is expected to last six weeks.

Nash denies both murder charges.
