The trial of 34-year-old man accused of firing a handgun during an incident inside a Huddersfield bar has been put back until January next year.

Wayne Bucknor had been due to stand trial at Bradford Crown Court alongside 35-year-old Martin Harriott on charges related to the early hours incident at the Kewz bar on January 31 this year.

But after legal discussions between Bucknor’s barrister Matthew Stanbury and Judge Mushtaq Khokar it was confirmed that Mr Stanbury and his instructing solicitors were no longer able to represent the defendant.

Further discussions about the progress of the case resulted in Judge Khokar explaining that the trial, which is due to last four days, would now have to be re-listed for a hearing at Bradford Crown Court beginning on January 30, 2017.

Bucknor, of Farrar Drive, Mirfield, has denied charges of possession of a handgun with intent to cause fear of violence and assault.

It is understood that Bucknor is alleged by the prosecution to have fired the handgun into the ceiling at the nightspot on Queen Street.

Harriott, of Staynton Crescent, Bradley, has also pleaded not guilty to the same charges.

The prosecution allege that he was part of a “joint enterprise” with Bucknor.

At the time of the incident it was reported that police had attended at the premises at around 4.30am and a man had to be taken to hospital.

It is understood that he suffered a facial injury after being struck by the ricochetting bullet from the handgun.

Both defendants were remanded back into custody, but Harriott may apply for bail later this week.
