Flowers were placed outside a Calderdale house after a man died.

The tributes were laid in Waverley Crescent, Hipperholme, hours after the body of a man was found inside the blazing building. The victim has not yet been named.

Police and fire officers are investigating the tragedy.

Fire crews were called at 1.38pm on Sunday to the semi-detached house after neighburs raised the alarm.

The house was badly affected by the blaze and the man was found in one of the rooms.

Crews from Brighouse and Halifax raced to the scene. Police were notified and launched an immediate investigation.

They confirmed that an adult male had been found inside the house.

Det Insp Gary Stephenson, from Calderdale District CID, said: “At 1.38pm on Sunday, police and the fire service attended an address on Waverley Crescent, following reports of a house fire.

“The body of a local man, aged in his 20s, was recovered from the property.

“There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances and a file has been passed to the coroner.”

A spokeswoman for West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Fire crews attended a house fire at an address in Waverley Crescent, on Sunday afternoon.

“The time of call was 1.28pm. Sadly, this incident resulted in one male fatality. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, however, it is believed to be accidental.”
