One particularly poignant message said of Sean: “He was beautiful inside and out”.

Dozens of people left messages of condolence on his sister Athena’s Facebook site, passing on their sympathies to her and to Sean’s parents.

Many said that the grief they were going through was something no parent should have to endure.

Many friends described Sean as “a top lad”.

One poster said: “I’m so sad to hear this — your brother was the same age as my Daniel. Your family must be devastated. I don’t know what to say — so tragic, such a waste of a young man’s life”.

Roisin Gillespie posted: “Sorry for your loss, anybody that really knows Sean knows he’s beautiful inside and out! x”

After the verdict Sean’s sister posted: “Thanks and as I’ve said before 2 families have lost a boy. Very mixed emotion. Please kids think about what you are doing you don’t want to end up like either! So so so sad”

Jakii Knell: Very sad story. Sounds like a spur of the moment thing that he will regret for the rest of his life. Unfortunately the other lad lost his life and there is no visiting him or speaking to him on the phone - which is heartbreaking. Rip x

Linda Passmore: Knife crime At last a life sentence. Justice for the poor lad who died.

Cherie Leanne: Rip Sean.... 2 family’s torn apart . for what... Knife crime again... Gone but not forgotten . may your memories live on xx.

At the time of the attack last August, floral tributes were left at the scene in Elmfield Avenue, Golcar.

One of them read: “Sean, Can’t believe I’m never going to see you again or hear your laugh. I’m going to miss you. Love Anne Marie. xxxx.”
