TRIBUTES to former Huddersfield health chief, Sukhdev Sharma came pouring in at the annual general meeting of the Huddersfield and Calderdale NHS Trust.

Chief executive Diane Whittingham said: “He had a kind word for everybody and leaves a legacy of tolerance and understanding.

“He was our chairman and our friend and will be sadly missed.”

During the AGM, chairman Andrew Haigh said, said the year ahead would be “challenging and exciting” and he thanked to staff, league of friends, volunteers and foundation trust members and membership council for their support.

He said: “Through their efforts, their imaginations and inspiration we continue to be one of the best performing trusts in the country.”

A health fair was organised in conjunction with the AGM and the doors of Huddersfield Royal Infirmary were open to the public.

Scores of people embarked on behind-the-scenes tours of the MRI suite, the X-ray department to see how modern medicine was delivered.

They also tested out resuscitation techniques on training models, tasted hospital food and saw the interactive ICU bed.
