PLEAS to ban heavy lorries from residential streets in Mirfield look set to be rejected.
Kirklees Council officials have recommended rejectingd a petition signed by residents asking for a ban on lorries using the roads between the Leeds Road and the Huddersfield Road.
Residents are concerned HGV drivers were using the streets as a rat run between the A62 and A644.
But a report to the Kirklees Council Cabinet today argues the volume of HGVs along the interconnecting roads was low and imposing a weight restriction would be unlikely to improve safety.
Police accidents records showed, of the 86 accidents in the area over five years, only one involved a lorry.
A 12-hour survey showed over half of lorries using the roads were accessing businesses and construction sites between the two main roads.
