TWO Huddersfield bookshops became celebrity hot-spots this week.

Tony Hadley, former lead singer of Spandau Ballet, spent an hour at Ottakars in New Street, signing copies of his book, To Cut a Long Story Short.

And nearby, at Waterstone's in Kingsgate, builder turned TV star Tommy Walsh was signing copies of his DIY guides.

Tony, winner of the ITV1 series Reborn in the USA, reveals the highs and lows of his 20-year career in music in his book.

It also covers classic songs such as True, Through the Barricades and Gold, through to a series of bitter rows and Spandau Ballet splitting.

He also details his own personal tragedy through to his popularity on Reborn in the USA and his current sell-out UK tour.

He says that over the past few years he has performed at least 250 shows a year.

Tommy, meanwhile, was signing copies of his guides.

He has four books out this year that should help any DIY novice to safely tackle jobs around the house and garden.

Kitchen DIY and Outdoor DIY are out now.

Two more titles - due for release in September and October - will deal with the bathroom and the rest of the house.

His earlier book, DIY Survival, is still on the best-seller list.

The Ground Force star said of his books: "They're for people who don't have a clue and are going to buy a property.

"DIY Survival just gives them some basics, some background rules and logical things."
