ASK any driver about his or her concerns and petrol prices will be top of the agenda.

They have been in the news many times in recent months, having soared to record levels.

And those price rises are why we have seen a glut of thefts from filling stations in recent weeks.

Thieves have struck at filling stations all over Huddersfield, and in the rest of Kirklees.

They drive up to the pumps, fill up their cars and then make off without any attempt to pay for the fuel.

It may seem like a trivial crime but to the filling station owners, and to the police, it is a serious matter.

Each one of these thefts can cost anything up to £100.

The thieves are brazen and seem prepared to risk getting caught, as they carry out their crimes often in the knowledge that the filling station forecourts are covered by security cameras.

We have a number of photographs of these thefts captured in the Caught on Camera section of the West Yorkshire Police website and I am asking people to look at the suspects and help us catch them.

I would also urge all drivers to help us stamp out this type of crime.

If you see someone making off, make a note of the car type and number and alert the police.
