A COMMUNITY trust hopes to get the green light to extend its premises.
A community shop, better mother and toddler facilities, an advice centre and clinic facilities will be included if the project in Lowerhouses gets the go-ahead.
Lowerhouses Community Trust wants to take on the leases of two properties next to the existing tenants' and residents' group premises in Fanny Moor Lane.
At the moment both houses are vacant.
Trust director Elsie Wheatley said: "The plans are very exciting.
"We need to secure the leases on the adjoining properties before we can take our ideas any further.
"In Lowerhouses there is a great need for more activities for local people, especially the younger ones.
"We hope to run a playgroup and hold exercise classes, but in order to do so we need bigger premises."
The existing Trust property - which is two houses knocked into one - already provides a community cafe.
This runs a well- attended breakfast club for youngsters in the area.
Upstairs, there is a meeting room and a separate room used as offices and an outreach centre.
