A LOCAL MP is going to great heights to honour local heroes.
More than 1,084 feet, or 330m, to be exact.
Winners of the awards organised by Dewsbury MP Simon Reevell will receive their prizes at the top of the Emley Moor TV mast – the UK’s tallest free-standing structure and listed building.
Mr Reevell said nominations for the inaugural Arqiva Emley Moor Community Award open today.
The award aims to celebrate unsung local heroes by inviting people to recognise their contribution towards the lives of individuals or the work of charities and community projects.
Mr Reevell will be joined on a judging panel by senior staff of three local newspapers – Neil Atkinson of The Examiner, Hannah Ridgeway of The Reporter and David Bentley of The Press. The winner will be invited to an awards ceremony in the summer at the top of the Emley Moor Mast.
Mr Reevell said: “‘The Emleys’ will enable those who have benefited most from the work of these outstanding individuals to acknowledge the contribution that they make.”
Nominations for the award will run until Friday, May 31, and can be sent to Mr Reevell by email at email@example.com or by post to his constituency office at 5 Northgate, Dewsbury, WF13 1DS. Nominees must live in Dewsbury constituency.
Anyone wishing to nominate a candidate should include contact details and a short description of their nominee’s contribution to the local area.
