A PUB has a new carpet - thanks to Coronation Street actor Bruce Jones.
Bruce, who plays Les Battersby, arranged for a friend to provide free new carpets for the Royal Oak, Rastrick.
Bruce has been a regular visitor to the pub since he was introduced to it by his agent, George Wilkinson.
Mr Wilkinson is a friend of the landlord, Trevor Mair, and provides live acts for Sunday night gigs at the pub.
The carpet gift occurred after Mr Mair and his wife, Susan, had started decorating the pub.
Mr Wilkinson and Bruce visited the pub with Andy Whyment, who play Kirk Sutherland in Coronation Street.
Andy and Bruce were in the area to appear at the Spudstock festival in Greetland.
Mr Mair said: "Bruce came in for a free meat and potato pie and he said we could do with some new carpeting.
"I said we couldn't afford it. The firm wouldn't pay for redecoration, so we have done it ourselves.
"A personal friend of Bruce's has a carpet place and he insisted that we be given the carpets for free. It was great."
The internal refurbishments at the Grade 2 listed former coaching inn are complete.
