POLICE were today investigating a fire which killed two young boys and left two other children in a critical condition.

Fire crews were called to a semi-detached family home in Greenwood Road, Tingley, Leeds, yesterday after a blaze broke out on the ground floor.

Two boys, aged four and six, died in the fire, while two children were taken to hospital, a police spokeswoman said.

Their condition was described as critical.

The children's mother and great grandmother were also being treated in hospital.

A West Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: "Police were called to the flat fire just before 7.30am. We can confirm that the fire has proved fatal.

"Police have launched a joint investigation with the fire service to establish the cause."
