A DRIVER fled the scene after his vehicle hit a bollard then ploughed into pedestrian barriers on the ringroad this morning.
The vehicle, a Honda Civic, crashed into pedestrian barriers at the junction of Southgate and Leeds Road
at around 12.30am.
A fire spokesman said the driver had a 'lucky escape' after the high impact crash which resulted in the cars engine splitting in two.
In a separate incident around the same time fire crews from Huddersfield were called to a crash on Southgate at the junction with St Peter's Road between a Ford Maverick and a taxi.
The driver of the Ford, a man in his 50s, and the male taxi driver were both taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary suffering from minor injuries.
