TWO men were cut out of a car with suspected spinal injuries after a Huddersfield road smash.

The two-car incident saw a Ford Mondeo collide with the rear of a Fiat Punto at the junction of Edgerton Grove Road and Trinity Street at 8.30pm on Thursday.

Firefighters were called to the crash on the roundabout by the Junction Pub by paramedics after the rear seat passengers said they were suffering significant back pain.

They were asked to cut the roof from the Fiat Punto so the rear seat passengers could be extracted on long boards.

The occupants of the Mondeo and front seat passengers of the Punto were uninjured.

Police diverted traffic to allow ambulance and fire officers to work at the scene but the incident, at one of north Huddersfield’s busiest junctions, caused traffic congestion in the area.

The two victims were taken by ambulance to nearby Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.
