A driver lost control of his vehicle which ploughed into bollards before crashing into a bus stop in Batley.

Fortunately fire crews were on the scene within seconds due to the crash happening near to Batley Fire station on Carlinghow Lane.

Both the driver and a passenger were injured. One of the occupants suffered serious injuries and both were taken to hospital by ambulance.

Fire crews from Batley assisted paramedics in the rescue by removing the vehicle’s doors and roof.

Watch Commander Jon Brants said: “We were called to a single vehicle RTC which occurred at 6.20am in close proximity to the fire station.

“Two men in their 30s had suffered injuries which were trapping them in the vehicle.

“We used cutting equipment to extract the casualties who were left in the care of the ambulance service.

“One of the men had suffered a broken hip.”

A police spokesman said: “A black Vauxhall Corsa has travelled along Carlinghow Lane and struck some bollards. It has continued a short distance before colliding with a bus stop.

“A driver and passenger have suffered non-life threatening injuries.

“Enquiries are ongoing.”
