Fire crews in Elland attended two road crashes where casualties were trapped.

One was on Park Road, Elland at 11.30pm on Saturday, when two vehicles crashed near the Colliers Arms pub.

A woman was driving a black Vauxhall Astra and suffered suspected neck injuries and became trapped in her car due to the impact of the crash with a Volkswagen. The second driver was unhurt.

Fire crews from Elland worked with paramedics who were already on the scene to assist in releasing her from the wreckage.

Firefighter Bob Peacock of Elland Fire Station said: “Two vehicles were involved and the driver of the Astra - a middle aged woman- was trapped in the vehicle.

“We used cutting equipment to remove the roof from the vehicle and she was extracted onto a spinal board and taken to hospital.”Paramedics were concerned the woman had suffered neck injuries and took her to Calderdale Royal Hospital as a precaution.

Earlier on Saturday a man in his 20s became pinned against a wall by his legs whilst a driver was manoeuvring a car in a tight space.

The unusual call came to fire crews at 6pm on Saturday night at Melrose Court off Victoria Road.

Firefighters from Elland also attended this incident and used hydraulic lifting gear to move the car to release the trapped man.

He was also taken to hospital with leg injuries.
