Two men have been arrested on suspicion of firearms offences following an alleged shotgun road rage incident in Holmfirth.

The drama unfolded in New Mill Road on Sunday night when three people in a grey Mazda were allegedly threatened with a shotgun by suspects in another car, as the vehicles were driven parallel to each other, in the direction away from Holmfirth.

During the night officers carried out raids at two houses in Huddersfield to trace suspects.

Two shotguns have been recovered. Officers have also traced a white Mercedes linked to the crime which is now being tested for forensic evidence.

A 19-year-old man was arrested at 10.30pm yesterday and a 22-year-old man was arrested at 5am today.

A third suspect is still being sought.

Both men were taken to Huddersfield Police station and today were being interviewed by detectives.

Det Insp Ian Thornes, of Huddersfield CID, said: “Over the course of last night and the early hours of this morning - Wednesday - two male suspects have been arrested from their home addresses and are currently being held in police custody.

“Both suspects have been arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

“They will be interviewed by detectives today. A third suspect is outstanding and enquiries are ongoing.”

Det Insp Thornes added: “I would like to reiterate that activity of this nature is extremely rare for Holmfirth and this is being treated as an isolated incident.

“This is also as a warning to others that police will actively seek those responsible for serious crimes to ensure the safety of our communities.”
