POLICE are appealing for information after a head-on smash between a quad bike and a cyclist on the Spen Valley Greenway.

The riders of both machines suffered serious injuries and were airlifted to hospital.

The collision happened on the greenway, off Carr Lane, Dewsbury Moor, at 7pm on Sunday.

Police said the cyclist was heading towards Ravensthorpe and the quad rider towards Heckmondwike.

It is understood the men, aged 31 and 40 and from the local area, were airlifted to Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield.

The cyclist was transferred to the intensive care unit at Leeds General Infirmary, where he was yesterday described as “stable”.

The accident was near to Dewsbury Moor Amateur Rugby League Club.
