Two men were injured when they were struck in the head with a knife and a hammer in a terrifying early morning raid today.

Seconds earlier they had been confronted by two masked men who had forced their way into a flat in North Street, Lockwood, Huddersfield.

The suspects shouted at the victims - two men aged 41 and 35 - as they broke into a struggle.

The 35-year-old man suffered stab wounds to his face and head caused by the knife. The 41-year-old man suffered head injuries caused by the hammer.

Both victims were taken to hospital following the raid at 5.45am but their condition is described as ‘non-life threatening’.

Two local men aged 41 and 22 were arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary and remain in police custody at Dewsbury.

Det Insp Ian Thornes, of Huddersfield CID, said: “Two men wearing balaclavas forced their way into the property armed with a knife and a hammer.

“The two male occupants suffered head injuries and phoned 999 after the incident and an ambulance attended.

“It would appear this was a targeted attack. Our inquiries are in an early stage and we are still trying to ascertain a motive for the attack.

“Officers are carrying out house to house enquiries but we would urge anyone who has not already done so, to come forward if they witnessed or heard anything suspicious.”
