Two men were taken to hospital after a bin lorry and a car crashed in Berry Brow.

Both were taken by ambulance to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary this afternoon, but their injuries were not believed to be serious.

One was the driver of the car, a Toyota Carina, while the second was a binman who was a passenger in the lorry.

Police had to close Woodhead Road between the junctions with Taylor Hill Road and Station Road.

The lorry’s diesel tank was ripped off in the impact and fuel spilled across the road, making it extremely slippery.

Kirklees Highways workers were called out to clean up the road surface.
