An inquest was opened yesterday into the death of a young man whose body was found near to the River Colne in Slaithwaite on Monday lunchtime.

Assistant Coroner Tim Radcliffe adjourned the inquest in Bradford to a future date.

Tyler Wilkins, 20, of Stuart Grove, Slaithwaite, was found by a member of the public hanged close to a bridge over the Huddersfield Narrow Canal in a wooded valley below Slaithwaite Cemetery, off Manchester Road.

His funeral service will be held at Brackenhall United Reformed Church on Friday, April 4, at 11.30am.

When the member of the public phoned the police to tell of their grim find it triggered a major police investigation.

Several emergency vehicles attended and a popular walkers’ footpath was sealed off with blue and white police tape.

Later, however, West Yorkshire Police confirmed there were no suspicious circumstances and were treating the incident as a sudden death.
