A MAN has appeared in court charged with a stabbing in a snooker club.

Umar Ahmed, 25, was before Kirklees Magistrates' Court yesterday.

The former Mirfield Free Grammar School student is accused of unlawful and malicious wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Paul Ramsay, prosecuting, said that the incident took place at Top Break snooker club in Batley on September 14.

Saleem Ishtiaq, 24, suffered stab wounds to his back and neck.

Ahmed, a founder of Soothill Football club, denies the charge.
