A PHARMACIST is to receive an honorary doctorate tomorrow for her contribution to the profession.

Dr Gill Hawksworth, who works at Mirfield Health Centre and at other centres in Huddersfield, will receive an honorary Doctor of Science at Bradford University.

Prof Chris Taylor, vice-chancellor, said: "All of the honorary graduates are recognised for their outstanding achievements within fields relevant to the interests and objectives of the University."

Dr Hawksworth is being given the doctorate in recognition of her appointment as President of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain in 2003/04, as well as for her support in promoting Bradford University as a leading education provider for pharmacists.

She received a first class special honours degree in pharmacy from Bradford and also a PhD.

She is a former pupil of Huddersfield High School.

Dr Hawksworth worked at Old Bank Chemists, Mirfield for 30 years.
