Sex offender arrested

AN ESCAPED sex offender has been arrested several hundred miles away from the West Yorkshire bail hostel where he lived.

John McDermott, 45, was reported missing and had his prison licence revoked after he disappeared from the hostel in Wakefield last Friday.

McDermott, described by West Yorkshire police as a dangerous sex offender who presented a threat to young children, was spotted in central London on Sunday before being seen again in Weymouth, Dorset, on Tuesday.

A Dorset police spokesman said McDermott had been arrested in Weymouth.

McDermott had served prison sentences for sexually assaulting two young girls and a woman after he broke into their home.
