THE Examiner are offering one lucky player the chance to win a fabulous FREE place on the newspaper's annual golf holiday to Majorca.
For the first time in the 11-year history of the Examiner Overseas Golf Challenge, we are organising a knockout matchplay tournament in the build-up which will have a 36-hole Grand Final play-off at Huddersfield Golf Club on Thursday, September 16.
The winner will qualify to take his (or her) place on the eight-day Overseas Challenge holiday, which departs for Palma Nova on Monday, November 8.
First names on the entry list are those of Huddersfield Town manager Peter Jackson and coach Terry Yorath, who have had little time for golf recently as they've been busy plotting Town's Division III promotion push.
Cost to join the two soccer heroes in the draw - which is being sponsored by Bradley Park professional Parnell Reilly - is just £25.
All entrants to the event, which is arranged by Examiner Travel and Hanson Travel, will play at least two rounds, as all first round losers will be re-drawn for a second opportunity to progress to the final.
The closing date for entries is Monday, March 1, and the first round draw will take place immediately after the closing date, when all entrants will be informed of their opponents and sent a list of the tournament rules.
Examiner editor Roy Wright said: "I am delighted to give our backing to the launch of this exciting new competition which will further enhance the existing tournaments on offer to golfers in the area."
To enter, complete the form in today's Examiner and send it with your entrance fee (cheques payable to EN & IS Ltd) to: Gina Fielding, Queen Street South, Huddersfield, HD1 2TD, or for further information call 01484 437790 or Paul Hanson on 01132 393300.
The first round draw will be made at the Examiner and published.
First out of the hat will have home advantage, but it will also be their responsibility to arrange a suitable date for the tie. The results must then be submitted (by the winner) to competition co-ordinator Paul Hanson, and will then be published in the Examiner.
This year's holiday will feature five rounds of golf, three of them in the Examiner Challenge at the Poniente course, which is situated just 10 minutes from the resort.
Santa Ponsa is the venue for the Team Stableford competition and the Fourball Medal.
Flying from Manchester, accommodation is half-board at the 4-star Santa Lucia Hotel, Palma Nova.
