It looks like we’re going to have a pretty average August according to Examiner weatherman Paul Stevens.

This means it’ll be relatively dry – save for the odd shower – in the coming week.

But the mercury won’t be squirting out of the top of the thermometer either, said the Salendine Nook meteorologist.

Paul said: “From Friday to the weekend there will be a good deal of dry weather.

“Until the early part of next week the air will be coming down from the Arctic but it won’t be bitter because we have warm summer sunshine.

“But when the sun goes in it will feel very chilly.”

And there will be a few unusually cold nights, with temperatures dropping well into single figures.

Paul said: “We will get some unusually cold nights with lows of 6°C or 7°C – that’s quite chilly for this time of year.”

The dry, cool weather will be followed by a damper but warmer spell.

As for a prolonged warm, dry spell don’t hold your breath.

Paul said: “Thereafter it looks like a run of the Atlantic (air) and some rain pushing in warmer conditions.

“The next reasonable spell of warm or hot weather will not be until well into the first week of August – and even that looks like an thundery one.

“As for prolonged sunny spells, we were thinking August but I’m coming away from that”

He added: “There’s only a 10% chance of a decent hot spell in August and that’s starting to fade.”

Overall it looks like Summer 2016 will be pretty typical, said Paul.

He said: “All in all there’s something for everybody.

“It’s not a washout but it certainly won’t be cracking the paths either.”
