AN UPPERTHONG playgroup has improved its facilities thanks to the Huddersfield Daily Examiner Charity Challenge.

Lane Pre-School Playgroup received £300 in sponsorship money after being nominated in the charitable event.

Playgroup manager Heather Brooke said: “People don’t necessarily realise that we are a charity and as a result it can be difficult to secure financial support.

“In addition to the children’s fees, we actually need to make around £5,000 per year via fundraising to meet our costs and to enable us to continue to provide new and exciting resources to keep our children stimulated.”

The money has been spent on improving the toilets, purchasing some new chairs and further developing the children’s outdoor sensory garden.

Some money has been reserved for the replacement of their “green cabin” which is set to cost £50,000.
