A WOMAN was violently attacked by two teenage girls in a vicious mugging.

The 33-year-old victim, from Dalton, was sheltering from rain in a doorway near St Paul's Church on Queensgate in Huddersfield town centre when the attackers approached her at 8pm yesterday.

One punched her in the face and she tried to flee, but was held by the other one.

The robbers grabbed her handbag and kicked and punched her until the straps broke.

The thieves fled with the bag, which contained a £150 Nokia mobile phone and money.

The victim suffered a cut lip, loose front tooth and other facial injuries.

Both attackers are white and aged about 16. One is 5ft 2in and slim with blonde hair. The other is slightly bigger.

Pc Dave Mc- Sweeney, of Huddersfield police, said: "This was a nasty attack on a young woman on the ring road. We feel sure people passing by must have seen what happened."
