A 36-YEAR-OLD woman victim was left badly shaken after she returned to her home late one night and discovered a panel had been removed from her back door.

Although terrified she rang a friend before searching every room.

"I kicked a couple of doors open to make sure no-one was still inside.

"I picked up a hammer, and by that time my friend arrived.

"The police came soon after and we assumed I must have disturbed whoever was there as there was no-one and nothing had been taken."

This victim has nothing but praise for the police and the way she was helped by the Kirklees Safer Communities Partnership.

Her home was visited by workers who assessed her home security and helped install new measures.

These included up- graded security lighting, new dead bolts on the back door, downstairs window locks and a new lock and chain on the front door.

"The police were brilliant and they wouldn't leave my home until they'd fully searched the house - even the loft - for intruders," she said.

"I was surprised at the amount of fuss which was made and how important it seemed to them. I was really impressed."

She added that although the attempt hadn't been something which preyed on her mind, she now felt much safer in her home.
