PHARMACIST turned film-maker, Iqbal Mohammed, premieres his directorial debut at a charity screening.

Iqbal will introduce his short film, Against The Norm, at the Odeon, John Smith’s Stadium, this Sunday at 6pm.

The 30-minute film follows three students from different ethnic backgrounds who are accused of cheating in their mock general studies exam.

All ticket sales at this screening, which is open to the public, will be split between the NSPCC and the Variety Children’s Charity.

As a pharmacist and screenwriter, 28-year-old Iqbal, of Marsh, helped produce The Pharmacist, with American director Michael Cassidy.

The short film, about an overworked local chemist, received plaudits in the US but failed to take off in the UK.

Against The Norm, which sees the three students bond over a common problem, aims to use humour to break down racial stereotypes.

Iqbal hopes the film will be shown at upcoming film festivals.

He said: “The Pharmacist was more of a niche film, but this has a wider appeal.

“With short films it’s very difficult as you’re quite restricted to what you can do with it.

“But you can make a great film with very little money.”
