FILM students from Huddersfield have proved themselves at a professional level.

The Media & TV Production students from the University of Huddersfield came to the rescue when leading multi-national Unilever UK needed to spice up their health and safety videos.

Unilever's first set of videos were produced nine years ago and have formed part of a compulsory induction process for visitors to the company's Leeds plant, where they manufacture home personal care products.

The original videos were also produced by Huddersfield media students and have served Unilever well. So when the time for change beckoned, Unilever went straight back to Huddersfield.

In the latest videos each tell a story, while highlighting some of the ever-present risks and hazards and, this time, humour was the key ingredient.

"The students came onto site, videoed it all, and did a really professional job," said Unilever site health and safety manager Dominic Mooney.

"The humour was particularly spot on – it certainly holds people's attention.

"The videos – one for visitors, the other for contractors – are used almost daily and every person who comes on site goes through an induction process of which the videos are an important part.

"Indeed, on occasions, the videos may be the only induction that our visitors receive, so they've got to be right. And the humorous elements, besides being very funny, certainly help it stick in the memory."
