FAMILY and friends of murdered youngster Joe McCafferty held a vigil last night to mark his birthday.
Joe was seven when he died in a fire started by an arsonist at a house on Haywood Avenue in Marsh on May 3, 1997.
Yesterday would have been his 17th birthday and his mum Tracey McCafferty, 41, gathered friends and family to remember him at the evening vigil on Haywood Avenue.
About 100 people, many of them youngsters, stood silently in the street for the vigil.
And, poignantly, they ended it by singing "Happy Birthday".
The event comes after Tracey made a renewed appeal recently for people to come forward with information about who killed her son.
Even 10 years on from the tragedy, she is sure that someone has information that could bring the person responsible to justice.
An inquest last year ruled that Joe had been unlawfully killed.
