A VILLAGE carnival could be over unless more helpers are found.

A last-ditch bid to get volunteers for Honley's annual carnival will be made at a public meeting next Friday.

Carnival chairman Andrea Gosslin warned: "Unless we get enough people to do all the jobs and organise it, that'll be it."

The meeting at the village hall in Roundway starts at 7.30pm.

Carnivals have been held for more than 35 years. But it failed to take place last year because of the lack of support.

Ms Gosslin said: "I just couldn't do it on my own. Next week's meeting is pretty vital."

The carnival is usually held at the end of June.

But Ms Gosslin said: "If people come to the meeting and suggest a different day or another format I'll go along with it.

"All I want is for Honley to have something once a year when we can all turn out together and have a good time."
