PART of Slaithwaite is being dug up again, 15 months after the village suffered major disruption while canal restoration was carried out.
Gas pipeline company Transco today began work which is due to last about two weeks.
Kirklees Council highways engineers said that delays for drivers would be unavoidable.
They said that from today there would be a four-way traffic light system at the junction of Britannia Road, Carr Lane, Station Road and Market Place.
This will enable Transco to replace a mains pipe in Station Road.
A council spokesman said: "Priority will be given to traffic from Britannia Road and Carr Lane going through the village.
"Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times. Public transport and HGVs will have access, but may be delayed."
* Traffic will be disrupted in Peel Street, Marsden, as pavements are replaced. The work will start on February 2 and last 12 weeks.
Temporary off-street parking will be available on Brougham Road.
