A NEW bus link is planned between Shepley and the centre of Shelley.
Kirkburton Parish Council wants to set up the daytime bus between the villages.
In a survey of people's public transport needs, the council discovered that many people wanted to travel between Shelley and Shepley.
There is no public transport link at the moment.
The council hopes to get cash from the Countryside Agency to pay towards the bus link.
The council needs to find about £5,000 itself to put towards the link.
It is also looking at the possibility of grants from Kirklees Council's Kirkburton Area Committee or a charitable fund run by the Halifax bank.
If the bus link is set up, it will operate from October 12 until March, 2006.
Council clerk Andrea Royle said: "It seems there are a lot of people wanting to travel between Shelley and Shepley.
"The total cost has not been established yet, because we have to put a contract out to tender."
The project is being carried out with help from the Countryside Agency's Rural Transport Partnership.
