A popular commercial vehicle rally gave people the chance to see lorry livery of the past.

Around 60 vintage wagons and lorries paraded through Huddersfield and along Manchester Road on Sunday to gather at an old Trans-Pennine stop-over point in Marsden.

And organiser Mel Munday said lots of people had turned out to see the annual special collection on display.

Haulage firm boss Mr Munday said: “The rally is a chance to see the old colours and designs local firms used on their commercial vehicles.

“There was so much variety. Everything tends to look the same now with all the rules and regulations on design.”

The vehicles – between 40 and 50 years old – gathered at Great Northern Street in Huddersfield before making their way along Manchester Road to the Carriage House in Marsden, where many drivers would spend the night in the days before the M62.

Mr Munday said the rally was becoming more popular as the years go by. “I think people like these memories of times gone by,” he said. “And we have certainly had lots of interest.”

He said the rally was put together by “a bunch of transport fans, many ex-drivers or those with haulage firms” and added: “Really it’s grown men with their toys!”
