Huddersfield Giants open their home campaign this coming Sunday at the John Smith’s Stadium against Hull KR and there will be a special guest.

The Voice star Georgia Harrup will give a pre-match performance to the fans..

Georgia, who was selected in the blind auditions by Tom Jones in the popular BBC Saturday night singing contest, will perform her audition song prior to the Giants opener against their visitors from Humberside.

Momentum is building ahead of the Giants first home game of the season after they secured the League Leaders Shield last year and began the 2014 campaign with a 24-8 victory at Wigan Warriors, and the club is hoping for a bumper crowd for Sunday’s game.

Giants Marketing Manager James Brammer said: “There is a great deal of anticipation ahead of Sunday’s home opener with the Giants back in town and we are absolutely delighted that Georgia will be performing her audition song before the game. Sunday should be a great occasion.”

The Huddersfield singer appeared on prime time television vying for selection from the panel of celebrity judges.

And the 27-year-old Lepton lass breathed a sigh of relief after she was chosen by Welsh superstar Sir Tom Jones.

But her future career was on a knife-edge for a moment with Sir Tom picking her with just seconds to go of her minute long performance.

Georgia from Lepton is pictured with Giants local stars Michael Lawrence and Peter Aspinall ahead of Sunday’s opener. She is looking forward to performing and tweeted:

“I’m really looking forward to performing at Sunday’s game between the Giants and Hull KR. Getting excited now #Be there”.
