JUBILANT community project organisers today thanked the Huddersfield public for helping them bag a £50,000 Lottery win.

Milnsbridge Matters won a nail-biting head-to-head TV battle with a Keighley project to secure the cash from the People's Millions Big Lottery Fund.

Viewers watched each group state the reasons why they deserved the money on ITV Calendar News on Tuesday - and then voted for the cause they thought the most deserving.

ITV also sent a film crew to make a short film about the project, which was broadcast during the Calendar evening news programme.

The money will be used to carry out improvements and install artworks at three neglected sites in Milnsbridge.

Artists will be commissioned to create the art using designs from local school and community workshops.

The project will form part of the River Colne Sculpture trail.

Project director Emma Dean said she was thrilled with the win.

She said: "I think we're all walking on air right now.

"I'd like to thank all the people who voted for us."

It is the second year the Big Lottery Fund and ITV have teamed up for the People's Millions vote. The Keighley scheme was for restoring woodland paths around Oakworth.
