Fire crews are fighting a second major blaze in West Yorkshire.

Ten fire engines were sent to Wakefield after a fierce blaze broke out in a bakery.

The fire is at Rathbones Bakery, which is owned by the Morrisons’ supermarket chain, and broke out shortly after 4.15pm today.

Large clouds of smoke drifted away from the bakery which is on the Unit 41 business park a few hundred yards from the busy M1 motorway.

The West Yorkshire Fire Service is already tackling a huge industrial unit blaze at Northowram, which has involved up to 25 lorries.

A spokesman said: “We got the call to the bakery and we believe it is a cooling unit that is involved in the fire.

“There are appliances there from several stations across the county.”
