Pass through an old kissing-gate by a gate in the corner and continue with a hedge/fence on your left as you reach the walk’s final stages
THE walk starts at the large car park opposite the Woolpack Inn in Whitley Lower.
Cross the road and take Scopsley Lane by the side of the Woolpack. About 100 yards after the end of the houses, where the tarmacadamed road bears right, take the rough track on the left (PF sign). On your right is a golf course.
At a fork keep right and enjoy the fine views to the left. Just past the remains of a stone stile on the left take a path which drops left into the wood. Soon you have a barbed-wire fence on your left.
For a few yards you emerge on to the golf course, before heading left again down into the wood, still with the fence on your left. Pass through a stile and drop straight down, soon forking right to keep to the right of the deep gulley, to a broad cross track. Turn left along it.
The track becomes a walled lane and leads to a surfaced road, where you turn right.
Ignore the first road on the left, and at the junction of roads, just beyond the lodge and entrance drive on the left, take the public bridleway on the left (access road to New Hall Farm).
When the road bears right to the farm leave it and pass through a gate on the left (PB sign) into a hedged lane.
Follow this, ignoring stiles and gates to left and right, until shortly after a stretch where you have a beck to your right the track rises with a wall on its right to a wooden and metal gate side by side ahead.
Pass through and bear right along the top edge of the wood. The track will eventually bring you through a farmyard to a main road. Cross to a track opposite (fine views right).
Where this turns right towards a farm go over the stile straight ahead and strike half left across the field, following the faint line of an old track, towards a clump of trees on the skyline (to the left of the wood in which the house is).
Cross the stile near the corner of the fence ahead and keep along with the fence on your left to a stile by a gate.
Bear right down the field to a stile at the left-hand end of the white fence. Turn left along the road.
When you reach a junction of roads cross a stile on the right and walk down with the wood on your right. The path leads into a lane between a wall on the left and the wood on the right.
When the wall ends, keep straight ahead. Drop through the wood and cross a beck. The path now curves left and climbs to the left of a house.
Soon Emley Moor mast appears ahead. As you ascend gently look out for a stile on the right where the wall meets the fence. Walk up the field with the hedge/wall to your left.
A stile in the top corner gives access to a ginnel which leads out to the main road in Lepton. Turn left along it. Just after a side road on the left, at the end of the houses, a PF sign points left over a stile.
Walk forward to a gateway in the fence ahead, then continue with the hedge on your left to a stile in the corner.
Keep on with the hedge on your left to a stile. Bear slightly left to the farm where a stile by the gate leads you past the cottages.
Follow the track as it curves right. Just before the trees, turn left over a stile and keeping a wall and then a fence on your right, drop down to cross two stiles 35 yards apart and a beck.
Follow the hedge on your left round and up to the next (double) stile and keep on with the hedge/fence to your left. When the fence goes left keep straight on to a gap-stile near the right-hand corner of the wood.
Walk straight up through the wood to the stile in the top corner. With the wall on your left continue past a gateway on the left to a stile by a gate. Now you have a wood on your left, but where it curves left keep straight on along the wall side to a stile by a gate.
Turn right along the road for 50 yards to a stile by a gate on the left (PF sign). Walk down with the hedge on your left. About 20 yards before the end of the field there are the remains of a stile on the left.
Cross them and then immediately cross the wooden fence on your right..
Turn left and follow the fence on your left. Where the fence makes a sharp left turn keep straight on across the middle of the field to a stile by a gate.
Cross the next field in the same direction as far as a blue notice with a white arrow. Here turn sharp left down to the fence corner at the wood. Cross the stile into the wood a few yards down from the corner and follow the path contouring through the wood. It is not clear on the ground, but is amply marked by white arrows. There is a steep drop to your left.
Emerge from the wood by crossing a fence, drop left for a couple of yards and continue your previous direction, across a very wet patch of rough ground, to pick up a fence on your right leading to a house. Cross the fence ahead on to the lawn of the house, walk straight forward to cross a stile and proceed straight down to reach the road by a stile.
Turn left down the road. Shortly after it bends left a PF sign points right through a gate and along the front of Falhouse Farm. At the end of the yard follow the wall sharp left along a short, fenced path to a stile.
Bear half-right through a gap in the wall and ascend the field half-right to a stile near where the wall meets the hedge. Keep along the hedge on your right. Pass through an old-kissing-gate by a gate in the corner and continue now with the hedge/fence on your left.
At the churchyard wall walk straight on over two stiles into a ginnel to pass Whitley Church to your right. Turn left up the road. At the main road turn left to your car.
