WALKERS have come forward to take on a special route at this year’s Examiner Charity Challenge.

There will be a 20 kilometre hike at the event to celebrate the challenge’s 20th anniversary.

All 30 places for the walk have now been filled.

Organiser Bob Armitage said yesterday: “We’re delighted to have filled all the places for the celebratory walk.”

Kirklees Countryside Volunteers will lead walkers on the 12-mile circular route beginning in Meltham and taking in Netherton, Farnley Tyas and Armitage Bridge.

The challenge takes place on Sunday May 17 from Meltham Sports and Community Centre.

The event will include Nordic walking, which involves walking with poles, for the first time.

Mr Armitage said: “It would be great if we could get some people to do the Nordic walking.”

There will also be four-mile and seven-mile walking routes.

Cyclists can choose between rides of seven, 17 and 24 miles and there will also be a 12-mile horse ride.

The challenge will also feature a two-mile pushchair and wheelchair route starting at Blackmoorfoot Reservoir.
