TWO West Yorkshire ambulance managers have walked part of the Great Wall of China to raise £5,000 for charity.

Pete Grasby and Geoff Langstaff joined 14 other fundraisers for the nine-day trek covering 50 miles of rugged terrain and breathtaking views.

Mr Grasby is general manager for training and Mr Langstaff is assistant director of operations for clinical services.

Mr Langstaff said: "The walk was gruelling. We'd be up and out early and would trek between six and 10 hours a day.

"I thought we'd be continually walking the Great Wall - which is tough enough due to erosion and narrow, steep, uneven steps - but we covered a lot of ground around the wall.

"Sometimes, we'd be climbing up to 3,000 feet through dense forest and along narrow, rustic tracks."

The two got involved in the trip after working with trainers from the Suzy Lamplugh Trust this year to train frontline crews in personal safety.

The trust, a registered charity, was set up in memory of Suzy Lamplugh, an estate agent who vanished in 1986 after arranging to meet a client.
