A man has admitted ignoring a ban on contacting his ex-partner.

Walter Fairley, of William Royd Lane, Heckmondwike, appeared at Kirklees Magistrates’ Court.

He was issued with a restraining order following a conviction for harassment at the Huddersfield court last month.

The order banned him from contacting Sharon Devine.

But on March 30 he sent her a text simply containing his own name.

His solicitor explained that the 36-year-old’s landlord at the time was his ex’s stepfather.

Andy Day, mitigating, said that this man was causing Fairley’s father some nuisance.

He told the court: “He unwisely though that Ms Devine could intervene on his behalf.

“Mr Fairley understands he shouldn’t have sent the text.”

Fairley admitted breaching his restraining order.

He was ordered to pay £120 fine, £85 costs and £20 victim surcharge,
