RESIDENTS have been asked to check on elderly neighbours after gas supplies to hundreds of homes were cut.
Some 450 properties in the Healey area of Batley were cut off on Thursday night when a water pipe burst, damaging a gas main.
The leak has been repaired, but water was still in the gas main yesterday. United Utilities was working to repair the problem.
Kirklees Council gave out hot drinks and information to people affected at Healey Community Centre on West Park Road yesterday.
A council spokesman urged residents to check on elderly and vulnerable neighbours.
A small number of fan heaters and hot-plates are available from Northern Gas Networks.
