POLICE have warned people never to give their bank details out over the phone.

The plea comes after a Newsome woman was telephoned by a man on Monday claiming she had won a mobile phone.

She became suspicious when he asked for her bank account number before he would send it.

She put the phone down and alerted police.

Pc Dave McSweeney, of Huddersfield police, said: "The woman did exactly the right thing.

"There was no need at all for this caller to know her bank details and people should never give them out to strangers over the phone."
