FIRMS have been warned to steer clear of bogus services to register them under the Data Protection Act.
Police say businesses in the Holmfirth area and other parts of West Yorkshire received fake notices which dem- anded a £135 fee.
Firms putting together the inform- ation needed for a registration for themselves can complete the process directly with the Information Commissioner for a £35 annual fee.
A police spoke- sman said: "We advise businesses not to send payment and to contact their local police station or Trading Standards if they receive such a notice."
Companies which hold all forms of personal data on people, including video data, need to register with the Information Commissioner.
For more information on data protection registration visit www.dpr.gov.uk or ring 01625 545740.
