THOUSANDS of Kirklees people are looking forward to heading to music festivals, Wimbledon and even the World Cup.
But consumer chiefs are warning music and sports fans to be on their guard against scam websites.
The advice, by Consumer Direct Yorkshire and the Humber, comes with the launch of this year’s Just Tick It campaign.
The initiative aims to raise awareness of fake ticketing websites and offer practical advice on how to avoid falling victim.
Thousands of people have been left disappointed and out of pocket in recent years owing to rogue websites.
Consumer Direct has also received complaints about companies cashing in and charging inflated prices and failing to deliver tickets in time for events.
Centre manager John Field said: “The number of calls received by Consumer Direct suggests that some areas of the ticket market aren’t treating fans fairly.
“However by taking sensible precautions you can reduce the risk of disappointment and financial loss.”
Official advice to fans includes using recommended sites and if in doubt searching the company on the internet.
Consider paying for tickets on a credit card and when buying online check payment pages are secure.
