Police have released CCTV footage of a woman they want to speak to about the robbery of a 94-year-old.

The elderly Heckmondwike woman was approached from behind by a young female who grabbed hold of her handbag and tried to take it from her during an incident at 2pm on Friday, May 15, in Heckmondwike.

The pensioner kept hold of her bag and there was a struggle in which she was pulled to the floor.

Det Con Richard Brooke of Kirklees CID explained: “The incident happened on the footpath that leads from Heckmondwike town centre to Morrisons supermarket.

“The CCTV footage shows the suspect walking in front of the victim on Croft Street as they head towards the footpath where the incident took place.

“The suspect is described as being about 20-years-old, around 5ft 6ins tall and of slim or medium build.

“She has long dark wavy hair which was tied back at the time and was described as having blotchy skin and wide eyes.

“We hope that this CCTV footage will jog someone’s memory.”

Anyone with information about the woman, or any other information about the incident, is asked to ring 101 or the Crimestoppers charity, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
